peace was euthanized today

it was a total displaced femoral fracture. the vet said her bones looked pretty thin on xray and asked if she got enough calcium in her diet. they are free fed on duck and goose pellets and were on baby duck food when they were small so he said that was enough calcium for them. but meat birds are bred to carry most of their weight in meat, not in bones..their bones are not worth anything on the market so it stands to reason that their bones are purposely light so more money is made on the total weight of their meat bodies.

so utterly sad..at eight months old, she could not even mate without the act snapping her bones.
quiet is alone now...that makes me even more sad.

at least she got to be a duck, for a little while.

rest in peace sweet innocent girl.

I think this sweet duck's name is very fitting. Perhaps her story will encourage your regular readers to spread the word about how ducks are raised and butchered for food and perhaps her death will lead to even one person leaving other ducks and chickens and turkeys in "peace".

Carol, I worked a couple of extra hours last week so im going to come in at 8 today.

a kitchen magnet on my fridge -- i picked it up at a silent auction for an animal organization here... i have no idea where it's from, but i really like it

A hundred years from
now, it will not matter
the sort of house I lived
in, what my bank
account was, or the car I
drove... but the world
may be different
because I was
important in the life of
animals and the
creatures of this earth.

i think that sums up what you all do at SAINTS

Oh noooo. Very sad news. Peace will be missed very much.

She was a bit more outgoing than Quiet. The first to stick her whole head in the water bucket ( while it was still being filled, that was fun for her ), the first to *nibble* at your feet and the loudest of them all announcing to all that breakfast was being served.

Poor Quiet. Yes, she will be missed very much.

Sorry to hear the sad news. "Peace" was not born free, but thank you Carol, for saving both ducks and giving them a chance to sample what God intended them to be....JUST DUCKS....not what greedy men with "Frankenstein" ideas and zero compassion created, with the sole intent to turn a quick profit. How dispicable!

. . .and Thank You Mauro for the Prayer.

*** A Prayer for Animals ***
"Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, especially for animals who are suffering;
for animals that are overworked, underfed and cruelly treated; for all wistful creatures in captivity that beat their wings against bars; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry;
for all that must be put death. We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals, and so to share the blessings of the merciful."

So sorry for the loss of Peace today Carol. I'm going to miss her greeting me on the weekends for her special treats, and yes I'm am also sad for Quiet. To watch the two of them being "just Ducks" and having so much fun when they have their fresh pool of clean water was amazing to watch. She will be missed.
