Poor little Percy was bought at an auction as a joke. The group of friends want to play a joke on one of their friends - tie a calf to their front door. Ha ha ha...not too funny in Percy's eyes. Once the joke was over, no one wanted Percy or new what to do with him. He was tied up in the backyard of someone who meant well, but that was no place for a young calf. Then he was posted for free on craiglist. So he came to SAINTS and was the start of SAINTS' first Bovine family.

He is such a great cow (steer, actually). We got him when his was about 2 months old. He was great and interactive, not scared of much. But then he started acting more like a giant dog than a few hundred pound steer. So we talked to our farm vets and they new of a 18 year old Jersey cow named Jeannette who was in need of a new home as her elderly owner needed to sell the farm, but wouldn't until Jeanette found a safe place to life. It was a perfect match. Jeanette taught Percy the ins and outs of being a well-behaved cow.
One year passed and we lost Jeanette. Percy was devasted. It was crushing to see young Percy mourning the lost of his second mom.

Again our farm vets knew of another senior cow needing a new home. Enter Spot. She was a 19 year old Holstein who was still producing milk but the had aborted her last two calves so her owner had no more use of her.
Another year passed and we lost Spot. Again Percy was devasted. We decided he had mourned enough in his very short life so we started searching for a new younger mother figure. There aren't too many 8 year old cows needing new homes, so we made the 'mistake' of going to the auction. Many hours later, we came home with 3 cows and 3 goats. Joy was the perfect friend for Percy, they were both 2 years old at the time and became instant friends and little Emily rounded out their perfect family.
