Newsletter 2004

This has been a month of highs and lows. The loss of both Roo and Bob has been difficult. Roo was especially hard because it was so unexpected and at first we were so sure we could halt the seizures. Admitting defeat and letting him go was very sad, he was a very gently and good dog.

When Bob finally surcumbed to his lung cancer, it was done with amazing grace. He sat on the examination table at the vets, struggling to breathe and yet purring and laying his head against my chest to comfort me. He was truly a lovely cat.

Friskie continues to mourn the loss of his friend, as they came from the same house and have been friends long before coming to us. Friskie is sleeping in Bob's favourite spots and is much quieter and less interactive in the past couple of weeks. We are hoping he recovers his happiness soon.

Ancient Louise is getting more and more frail in the past few weeks. She is starting to leak urine when she sleeps. She is still fiesty enough to whack the younger cats though, if they try to push in on her favourite lap.

Bill has had a dental cleanup and has a big pearlie white smile.

Marley has recovered well from his dental and neuter surgery and is becoming a huge favourite with everyone.

Harry has been shaved to the skin, and he feels great! He will be having that neck mass, which appears to just be a hugh fatty lypoma removed early in the new year. It is pressing on his trachea so it needs to come off. The recovery may be a little long so I wil be taking some time off work to be with him. Harry is a great hearted dog, we are so glad to have him with us.

Herbie's blood sugars dropped down to 2 so we quickly had to reduce his insulin dose. We will be monitering him fairly frequently to try to keep him stable.

Saints has found a temporary home. We will be leasing a 5 acre piece of property in Mission and will begin some basic, safety reno's in January and are hoping to be able to move the animals sometime in February. The search for a permanent home continues, but in the meantime we are truly grateful for this beautiful space for our animals to enjoy.

There is a new, old dog coming in tomorrow, his name is Gus. Take a moment to meet him on his webpage after he arrives, we are looking forward to meeting him!

This is a time of great joy and some fear as the reality of our sanctuary takes shape. Please take a moment to wish us good luck and hope for a job well done for our animals friends.
