important notice to all volunteers and staff regarding jesse

Carol  ·  Oct. 25, 2008

that mass on the bone of her back leg that came out of nowhere, is growing really rapidly...she is in ALOT of pain tonight and not full weight bearing on that leg. i have adjusted her pain meds accordingly and we will see over the next couple of days if this helps her stay more comfortable. i will ask the vet if we can try some indocid as it works well for human bone pain.
i am convinced it is a rapidly progressing osteosarcoma and if right, she is at huge risk for a spontaneous fracture. i really don't want to take her in to the vets, muzzle her, and xray with her trying to rip out our throats cuz she is SUCH a fractious cow when we try to do anything with her at all, like trimming her freaking nails. but i might get her in this week so the vet can have a quick look but don't touch and see if she has the same opinion as me.

until then...NO STREET WALKS...too hard a surface and slippery when wet too. she can be taken to the memorial garden and taken off leash to do her business and then right back to the mp room......as little walking as possible for now please.
walk slowly and gently with her and watch for her back leg giving out when she squats to pee or poop. if she goes down and cannot get herself up, slip her leash under her belly to gently help lift her, do not try to lift her with your hands, she will probably bite.

i think jess is not with us for long...eva moved the big yoga mat in for her and there is fresh pizza in the mp room fridge for her too.

you suck with other animals jess, you suck with strangers at your window too, you TOTALLY suck at accepting any kind of hands on anything regarding care for you (except petting and kissing and hugging)...you are utterly spoiled rotten and a demanding selfish fiend and all of us absolutely adore you thru and thru. take special care with your leg sweetie for as long as you can.

That's a great description that would include 99% of malamutes no doubt. A friend of mine recently described them as "TOTAL USERS" lmao! But aren't they simply so demanding & uncooperative..then silly & so big brown eyed we have to love them?

Most of them are creeps to take to the vet...I hate to do it unless it's a must thing. Way too much stress all round.

I'm sorry to hear she likely has bone cancer, it's the most common cancer in Mals unfortunately.

i know this is a terrible time to mention it, but i forgot to mention today - i found a small mass on Cleo - on the inside of her right hind leg just at her ankle crease
